19 Feb Fun Learning Class Focused on Marine Ecosystems Jump Starts 2nd Year of CTC’s Ocean Keeper Club

Ocean Keeper Club (OKC) is a club dedicated for kids from local schools around Sanur (Sekolah Dasar Negeri/SDN) to learn about the beauty of the sea and the diversity of marine animals that live in it, to learn what challenges the oceans are facing. Ocean Keeper Club members will participate in interactive and interesting learning sessions to get closer to the oceans, to learn about and to care for the oceans and our planet. The second batch has 60 students in total, from the age of 9 to 12 years old. 

The session is held once a month, usually falling on a Saturday, and this year, the participating schools are SDN 2, SDN 4, SDN 8 Sanur, SDN 10, SDN 12. The program will run for 12 sessions with different discussions, varieties of activities, and interactive games. Similar to the first year, this batch will run for a year from 2024 to 2025. CTC just recently launched the second batch of Ocean Keeper Club, the first session was held on Saturday, 27th January 2024 at Center for Marine Conservation. 

The First Session was opened with a tour around Center for Marine Conservation, 50 students were sorted into three groups and each group followed a facilitator around the Center. They were beaming with excitement and actively throwing questions to the facilitators. Following the house tour, the first session of OKC was officially started. The theme of the first session was “Understanding Marine Ecosystem”. The kids met Max, Mindy, and Octa, who are the icons of Ocean Keeper Club, for the first time. The session ran for an hour and more, and it was concluded by handing out a certificate and a passport to the kids to acknowledge their participation and enthusiasm in saving the oceans!
