18 Jan Starting the Year in the Right Zone
The first Nusa Penida Marine Protected Area (MPA) joint patrol was conducted on January 18, 2017. Out of the 87 activities recorded, there were 3 violators. Two tourist boats were found in the core zone, while a snorkelling boat was fishing in the tourism zone. The violators were asked to stop their activities and move to the designated area.
The team also removed mooring buoys suspected to be used by compressor fishermen. To support the patrol team, CTC helped conduct a resource use monitoring survey to check how various stakeholders are utilizing the different areas around the MPA. The joint patrol and resource use monitoring was done by a team from the Nusa Penida MPA Management Unit Indonesian Navy, Indonesian Marine Police, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (BPSPL Denpasar), village representatives and supported by CTC. (Photos by Wira Sanjaya)
