30 Dec CTC Strengthens Community Engagement Through Marine Conservation Outreach With Students in Vila Atauro, Timor-Leste

On Thursday, October 20, 2025, CTC continued to expand its community engagement efforts in Atauro Island, Timor-Leste through a more interactive and youth-centered approach. As part of our ongoing Diskon Program, the team held a special outreach session with students and teachers of Centro Aprendizajen Formação Eskolar in Vila Atauro, creating a meaningful space for learning, dialogue, and creativity around marine conservation.

The activity was carried out in two sessions. The first session focused on coordination and discussion with the school’s teachers. During this meeting, the CTC team introduced the goals of our outreach program, our mission in Atauro, and the broader conservation initiatives that CTC is implementing across the region. This exchange allowed teachers to better understand our work and identify opportunities for collaboration in future school-based activities and celebrations.

The second session brought together 44 enthusiastic students—17 boys and 27 girls—for an engaging and interactive learning experience. The discussion centered on the important roles young people can play in protecting the ocean and safeguarding marine species. Students shared their ideas, asked questions, and reflected on how their everyday actions can contribute to a healthier marine environment.

To make the session even more enjoyable, students participated in a creative drawing activity, where they painted their favorite marine species. This activity not only encouraged artistic expression but also helped reinforce their connection to the marine life that surrounds and supports their community.

Teachers expressed their appreciation for CTC’s initiative to reach out directly to the students. They highlighted the value of introducing marine conservation in a way that is accessible, inspiring, and relevant to local youth. The school also shared its openness to collaborate with CTC on future events and programs that continue to build environmental awareness among students.

Through activities like these, CTC remains committed to strengthening conservation understanding at the grassroots level, ensuring that the next generation is informed, empowered, and motivated to protect the ocean and its biodiversity.
