31 Dec Supporting Conservation Management at Hatta Island

On 22 November 2025, CTC conducted an Assessment of Management Effectiveness for the Locally Managed Marine Area (LMMA) of Hatta Island at the CTC Office in Banda Neira. The activity was attended by 24 participants representing diverse local stakeholders, including the Raja of Hatta Island, traditional and religious leaders, security officers, representatives from the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), conservation and ecotourism village groups, and women’s groups, ensuring inclusive representation in the assessment process.

The assessment was facilitated by CTC and witnessed by representatives from the Branch Office of the Marine and Fisheries Department of Maluku Province (Banda Islands Cluster VI) and the Directorate of Ecosystem Conservation, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia. The process applied the Draft KBK (Conservation Impact Area Effectiveness) Tool to evaluate management performance.

The meeting concluded with the signing of an Official Record of Meeting confirming the assessment results. Several follow-up recommendations were jointly agreed upon, including strengthening the recognition of local regulations (Sasi), supporting community-based management, enhancing joint monitoring efforts, building the capacity of the Hatta Island Management Unit, promoting ecotourism and sustainable practices, and improving outreach to marine resource users. These steps are expected to further strengthen the long-term effectiveness and sustainability of marine management in Hatta Island. Through this activity, CTC demonstrates its commitment to supporting inclusive, community-based marine management in Banda Islands.
