05 Jun This Month We Are Celebrating Important Dates For The Environment And Our Oceans!

On June 8, we celebrate World Oceans Day. Be thankful to the ocean for providing us with the oxygen to breathe and abundant resources for humankind to live. Save the date to ponder how oceans save our lives. It’s time for us to give back to the ocean by initiating sustainable management of the world’s oceans. This year, the United Nations proclaims “Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean” as the global theme for the World Oceans Day celebration. The theme is strongly related to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development that will be implemented in 2021 to 2030, which aims to strengthen the development of scientific research and innovative technologies that can connect ocean science with the needs of society.

June 9 is an important date to celebrate Coral Triangle Day. This day is annually celebrated in the Coral Triangle Region: Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste. The celebration aims to position the Coral Triangle as a globally significant eco-region and to empower people to take actions to protect and conserve the ocean as a natural treasure. Coral Triangle Day is usually organized to promote marine conservation through various events and actions such as beach clean-ups, sustainable seafood dinners and exhibitions, bazaars, fashion shows, ocean film festivals, and beach parties. The first Coral Triangle Day was celebrated on June 9, 2012.
