23 Oct SEANET Showcases Fisheries Products at Meti Kei Festival

CTC’s Building a Sustainable Seafood Industry to Support Coastal Communities in the Arafura SEA (SEANET) project joined the Pesona Festival Meti Kei 2017  from October 22-23, 2017 in Langgur to showcase fisheries products made by women groups in Merauke and Southeast Maluku District. SEANET aims to empower women in fishing communities by providing training on post-harvest processing, business planning and helping them find new markets for their products thereby increasing income and reducing pressure on fisheries resources.

 

Since its implementation at the start of 2017, SeaNet has trained 91 women and paved the way for the introduction of new sustainable income sources for fishing communities in its target sites. It has increased income by 80% for women who participate in its fisheries post-harvest livelihood project by introducing by increasing the market value of low-value fish stocks, opening new markets for fish products in larger cities across Indonesia.
