29 Mar CTC Hosts Learning Visit for High Level Officials from Bangladesh
Coral Triangle Center hosted high-level government officials from Bangladesh on March 29-30, 2017 for a learning visit at our office in Sanur, Bali and a one-day field learning trip to Nusa Penida Marine Protected Area (MPA).
The delegation included Honorable Narayan Chandra Chanda, Minister of Fisheries and Livestock (MOFL), Bangladesh Ambassador to Indonesia Major General Azmal Kabir. , senior officials from MOFL as well as their counterparts from the Indonesia Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. The learning trip was organized by USAID.
During their visit, CTC Executive Director Rili Djohani briefed the delegation about marine conservation efforts in the Coral Triangle as well as the establishment of the Nusa Penida MPA. On the other hand, Minister Chanda noted the importance of learning from the experiences of Indonesia in managing Bangladesh’ biodiversity and fisheries as well as developing their only coral reef ecosystem into an eco-tourism destination. In Nusa Penida, the group snorkeled in the coral reefs, joined a mangrove tour and learned first hand how a marine protected area zoning system is developed and implemented.
