CTC was very happy to host participants of the Our Ocean Conference 2018 on a learning trip to Nusa Penida Marine Protected Area. On October 31, 2018, our guests included participants from USAID led by Assistant Administrator Carrie Thompson, Aurelia Micko from USAID RDMA, Jennifer Kane and Matthew Burton from USAID-Environment Program and Celly Catharina from USAID Indonesia.
During the trip the participants learned about Nusa Penida MPA zoning system and the development process, and also learned how about community involvement on conservation and its benefit for the community through mangrove tour. As new approach, several woman were actively involved in the mangrove tour activity. The participants learnt how marine tourism development in Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida have been replacing seaweed farming activity.
We also hosted participants from the Environmental Defense Fund for a field trip to Nusa Penida MPA on November 1, 2018 with a total of 35 participants.
