On August 30, 2025, CTC successfully held the second session of the Ocean Keeper Club (OKC) Batch 3 with the theme “Bermain ke Hutan Mangrove” (A Journey to the Mangrove Forest). The session brought together 84 enthusiastic students from six elementary schools in Sanur accompanied by six dedicated teachers.
This month’s session took students on an exciting journey into the heart of one of the ocean’s most important coastal ecosystems: the mangrove forest. Through interactive learning and digital exploration, students discovered the unique characteristics of mangroves and the fascinating species that call them home, including the milky stork, Asian monitor lizard, and the archerfish, known for its remarkable ability to shoot water to catch insects.
The session also emphasised the critical role mangroves play in reducing wave energy and providing shelter for countless marine and coastal species. By highlighting the environmental importance of mangroves, OKC aims to deepen students’ appreciation for this ecosystem and inspire them to become active protectors of their coastal environment.
The energy and curiosity displayed by the students were truly inspiring. As we continue our 12-month journey, the OKC team is hopeful that this growing passion will evolve into a lifelong commitment to marine conservation.
