CTC successfully conducted a capacity-building program through a Marine Protected Area (MPA) Design Training in collaboration with Polytechnic of Fisheries Business Expertise (POLITEKNIK AUP) from November 3–7, 2025. The training aimed to strengthen participants’ logical thinking in planning and designing marine conservation areas based on clear goals and objectives. A total of 38 students and one lecturer participated in the program, gaining essential knowledge on conservation planning approaches.
The training combined theoretical sessions with hands-on practice to enhance both knowledge and skills. Participants learned how to collect spatial data in the field, develop MPA zoning systems using participatory methods, and apply the Systematic Conservation Planning Tool (SCPT)–Marxan. In addition, they practiced processing spatial analysis results and creating map layouts using QGIS, enabling them to translate technical data into practical conservation planning outputs.
By the end of the training, participants were able to design an imaginary MPA core zone for Seberang Island MPA. Using QGIS and Marxan calculations, they produced spatial analysis outputs and zoning maps that demonstrated their improved understanding of systematic conservation planning and MPA design. By working closely with academic institutions and young professionals, CTC continues to contribute to effective and sustainable marine conservation efforts.
