22 Dec CTC Reaffirms Commitment to Excellence through Assessor Recertification
Four of Coral Triangle Center (CTC) competency assessors, Purwanto, I Nyoman Suardana, Wira Sanjaya, and Kasman, successfully completed the Competency Improvement Training and Recertification for Competency Assessors held on September 8–9, 2025, at Hotel Balairung, Jakarta. The training and competency assessment, organized by LSP-Pramindo (Lembaga Sertifikasi Profesi Pramuwisata Indonesia), served as a crucial step to renew the assessors’ licenses for another three years and strengthen CTC’s capacity as an accredited Competency Assessment Center (Tempat Uji Kompetensi or TUK) under LSP Konservasi dan Jasa Kelautan (LSP KJK).
In total, 22 participants (16 men and 6 women) from diverse professional backgrounds, including tourism, marine conservation, artificial intelligence, and heavy machinery, joined the training and recertification program. Participants were guided by Master Assessors Sunyoto and Gunadi, appointed by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP). The two-day event consisted of refresher training sessions on September 8 followed by a competency assessment on September 9, ensuring participants’ knowledge and skills remain aligned with BNSP standards.
Prior to the main program, participants attended a preparatory session on September 4, led by LSP-Pramindo Chairperson Sri Suryani, to review assessment procedures and documentation requirements. The refresher training focused on three core units of competency: planning assessment activities, conducting assessments, and contributing to validation processes. These units form the foundation of professional assessor certification in Indonesia.
Each CTC assessor was assessed using different certification clusters relevant to their field. Kasman and I Nyoman Suardana completed the Community Awareness on Marine and Coastal Resource Conservation cluster, while Purwanto and Wira Sanjaya worked on the Coral Cover Data Collection cluster. Through portfolio verification and competency interviews, all four were declared competent and recommended to renew their licenses by the master assessors.
This recertification is particularly important as four of CTC’s six active assessors had their licenses due for renewal in 2025. The process ensures that TUK CTC continues to meet the requirements set by LSP KJK and BNSP. Since its establishment as a competency assessment center in 2016, CTC has conducted 25 competency assessments for the Marine Conservation Area Planning and Senior Socio-Economic Enumerator schemes, certifying a total of 452 individuals as competent professionals.
Beyond certification renewal, the training also provided valuable learning experiences. Participants highlighted the benefit of pre-training preparation, which made the main sessions more effective and productive. The recertification further deepened the assessors’ understanding of assessment ethics, evidence verification, and best practices for ensuring credible, transparent certification outcomes.
By completing this program, CTC’s assessors not only renewed their professional licenses but also strengthened their capacity to support Indonesia’s national framework for human resource development in marine and coastal conservation. Their renewed competency will enable CTC to continue delivering credible, high-quality assessments that uphold professional standards across the Coral Triangle region.
