22 Dec Bali Youth Explore the Ocean with CTC and OceanX
As part of its collaboration with OceanX, Coral Triangle Center (CTC) recently concluded a series of activities designed to promote ocean literacy among school and university students in Bali. The initiative aimed to spark curiosity, raise awareness about ocean exploration, and inspire young people to take part in protecting marine ecosystems.
The events featured the OceanX Education Portal, a digital platform that allows users to explore the deep sea aboard the research vessel OceanXplorer through stunning 360° visuals and interactive content. Developed by OceanX Education, the portal combines science, technology, and storytelling to make marine learning accessible and exciting.
As one of OceanX Education’s partners, CTC proudly hosts the portal in Indonesia and collaborates with OceanX to promote ocean literacy through various educational programs and resources, including the multilingual activity book, “Exploring the Ocean”.
Over several sessions held in September and October 2025, CTC welcomed both primary and university students to the CTC Center for Marine Conservation. A total of 142 students from local schools and universities joined the activities, including participants from international exchange programs.
Through immersive videos from OceanX expeditions in Indonesia and Seychelles, students were introduced to fascinating deep-sea creatures such as the Whiplash Squid, Dumbo Octopus, and Killer Whale. They also took part in the interactive Dive and Discover game, where they could experience the thrill of piloting a virtual submarine through the ocean depths.
Beyond exploration, the sessions also highlighted the connection between ocean research and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), encouraging students to see how ocean health relates to broader global challenges such as climate change and sustainable resource use. Participants showed great enthusiasm and curiosity, especially those from non-marine backgrounds, who expressed a newfound interest in ocean science and conservation. Each student received a copy of “Menjelajahi Samudra” to continue their ocean learning journey at home.
Through this collaboration with OceanX, CTC continues to nurture a generation of young ocean advocates who are informed, inspired, and ready to protect the incredible biodiversity that lies beneath the waves.
