25 Jun CTC Joins Bali Ocean Days at the 18th Bali International Film Festival

The Coral Triangle Center (CTC) team joined an inspiring film screening event presented by Bali Ocean Days and the SBS Foundation during the 18th Bali International Film Festival. The free event featured two powerful documentaries that brought critical ocean issues to the big screen.

Deep Rising by Matthieu Rytz is a visually striking, award-winning documentary that dives into the environmental and geopolitical impacts of deep-sea mining. Through stunning footage and investigative storytelling, it reveals how deep-sea extraction threatens fragile marine ecosystems and raises questions about global ocean governance.

Also screened was Giants of the Deep, an episode from National Geographic’s OceanXplorers series introduced by James Cameron. The film offers a rare and intimate look into the social lives of Sperm Whales, highlighting their complex behavior and intelligence.

Held at Cinema XXI, Icon Mall Sanur, the evening was not only a chance to enjoy these films and engage with the filmmakers—it was also a beautiful gathering of the community. Conservationists, students, ocean lovers, and filmmakers came together in shared appreciation and concern for our ocean planet.
