18 Nov Coral Diving School Launches First Scientific Diving Course

Coral Triangle Center’s (CTC) Coral Diving School has successfully completed its first-ever Scientific Diving Course. This milestone marks a significant step in advancing marine research skills for conservation enthusiasts and professionals alike.

The course followed a series of online foundational classes in Marine Ecology, Fish Identification, and Coral Identification, offered through CTC’s online platform. With these basics in place, the participants then joined on-site training led by CTC’s expert team, focusing on critical field data collection methodologies.

Hands-on training included learning essential techniques such as the Manta Tow Methodology, Point Intercept Transect (PIT) Protocol, Coral Data Analysis, and Underwater Visual Census (UVC) Technique. After mastering the theory, the participants practiced these techniques in a Dry Land Simulation (Transect Setup) before moving to underwater sessions in CTC’s dive pool.

The final part of the course took place in Amed, where the participant applied their skills in a real dive environment, gaining practical experience in marine research and data analysis. This blend of theory, simulation, and field practice offers a comprehensive introduction to scientific diving.
