24 Oct CTC Engages in Climate Change Workshop, Showcases Marine Conservation Efforts

On September 9-10, 2024, Coral Triangle Center (CTC) participated in the workshop “Addressing Climate Change: The Voice of Emerging Asia,” organized by the Center for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS) in Bali. The event brought together a distinguished group of climate change experts and corporate leaders to address critical climate challenges in the region.

During the event, CTC engaged in dynamic discussions that generated innovative ideas and solutions aimed at amplifying emerging asia’s voice on climate mitigation and adaptation, with a focus on regional needs and priorities. The collaborative spirit and dedication to climate action demonstrated by all participants were truly inspiring. All participants contributed their valuable perspectives in support of sustainable development across the region.

Some of the key takeaways from this event include the need to develop a platform to build on existing work and overcome geopolitical and sectoral boundaries, with a focus on three main areas: identifying, developing, scaling, and implementing solutions; facilitating meaningful conversations; and developing talent and leadership. Tailoring these efforts to the context of Emerging Asia is crucial, alongside leveraging local resources and wisdom to ensure solutions are regionally relevant and impactful.

Following the workshop, CTC had the pleasure of hosting the delegates at our Center for Marine Conservation in Sanur, Bali. Here, they witnessed first-hand the importance of monitoring and restoration efforts in boosting reef resilience. Delegates also gained practical insights into how conservation-based livelihood programs are empowering local communities and fostering sustainable marine practices.

This immersive experience provided a fitting conclusion to the workshop, highlighting the critical role that science, stewardship, and community engagement play in preserving our natural heritage.
