We at CTC are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our board member Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghofar yesterday at Telogorejo Hospital in Semarang. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Dr. Sri Redjeki Ghofar and family.
Dr. Ghofar was a member of the Sustainability Envoy of NFI-Crab Council, USA and also an independent fisheries advisor to the Coral Triangle Center providing expertise and training in sustainable fisheries management. He focused on global and national fisheries issues, climate change, marine ecosystem conservation, and fisheries and agricultural trade with reference to WTO & UNEP.
Dr. Ghofar worked as a Senior Lecturer and Consultant at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Diponegoro University who made significant contributions to the Blue Swimming Crab (BSC) fisheries and played an instrumental role in the National Commission for Studies on Fisheries Management (KOMNASJISKAN). He obtained his BS from the Diponegoro University, Indonesia in 1980, diploma in fisheries management from Humberside College, U.K. in 1985, MS in Fisheries Biology and Management from the University of Wales, U.K. in 1986 and Ph.D. in Marine Biology from the University of Wales, U.K. in 1989.
