CTC’s Ocean Keeper Club (OKC) wrapped out 2022 with an engaging fun-learning session themed “The Journey of the Sea Turtle”. For an hour, three main characters Max, Mindy and Octa invited 38 young participants to get to know sea turtles better and follow this charismatic sea animal as it travels across the oceans for many years.

This special event was held in a hybrid format, with 31 elementary school pupils from SDN 1 and SDN 2 Sanur attending in person (11 male and 20 female), while 7 other female participants from Jakarta, East Java and Kalimantan joined via Zoom. Together, they watched video and presentations which explained the life cycle of sea turtles and was narrated by Max and Octa. Since the launch of OKC in March 2022, the club has successfully engaged around 500 kids to learn about marine conservation and care for the oceans.
Participants also had the opportunity to read the story “Perjalanan Pulang” (The Journey Home), which tells of a green turtle named Greena returning to her nesting beach. The reading of this story was very enjoyable as it was read by Mindy with her adorable voice. The illustrated book “Perjalanan Pulang” is a collaboration between CTC and The Asia Foundation through the Let’s Read Asia program and has published online on the programme’s website.
One of the participants from SDN 2 Sanur, Ida Ayu Made, said she really enjoyed the OKC session and is interested to continue attending the event every month. “I am happy to learn about the oceans and this time I got new knowledge about sea turtles,” she said. CTC will continue running the OKC sessions every month, both online and hybrid, open for all kids aged 9-11 years old. Participants can register at this link: https://bit.ly/OceanKeeperClub
