08 Jun Indonesia’s Global Role in Ocean Protection and Sustainability

CTC Executive Director Rili Djohani makes the case for Indonesia to take a bigger role in catalyzing collective action for the ocean at the global level in an Op-Ed piece published in the Jakarta Post on June 8, 2022. “The challenge for Indonesia to scale up and galvanize international support for the sustainability of our environment and ocean. At the helm of this year’s G20, Indonesia can play a role in ensuring that sustainability and ocean issues remain high on the G20 agenda and that world leaders continue to address these as urgent issues and commit to providing solutions going forward. The goal of protecting 30% of our global ocean will require an unprecedented level of innovation, collaboration, and commitment across a broad spectrum of stakeholders. Transformative approaches to governance and management are essential to expand protected areas,” she noted.
