07 May DID YOU KNOW?

On June 8, we celebrate World Oceans Day, shining the spotlight on the global ocean that covers more than 70% of the Earth’s surface and provides the largest source of protein to billions on the planet. Tomorrow, June 9, we mark Coral Triangle Day, celebrating the world’s epicenter of marine biodiversity, home to 76% of the world’s coral species and 37% of the world’s reef fish, and which supports millions of people with their food and livelihoods. The Coral Triangle includes Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste. This year’s theme for Coral Triangle Day is “Driving a Blue Economy for the Coral Triangle,” highlighting the need to invest in ocean protection and sustainability to drive the post-Covid pandemic recovery.
