01 Jan New Year’s Message from Our Executive Director
The COVID-19 pandemic this year has affected all of us around the world, and fundamentally changed how we live and how we do business. A strong wake-up call about the connectivity and dependence among people, organizations and countries. The recent loss of our board member Bapak Widodo Ramono deeply saddened us. He leaves an impressive conservation legacy and will be remembered as one of the most dedicated conservation leaders of Indonesia.
We have only one planet! The threats to nature and people are global which requires awareness, knowledge, change in mindset and behaviour, and collaboration to safeguard our future. My epic trip in November this year to the Forgotten Islands east of Flores and Banda Arc Islands was an inspirational reminder of what is at stake and what we may lose forever! Just to be in the water and diving every day, witnessing the extensive healthy coral reef ecosystems and abundant fish diversity was an amazing and liberating experience.
CTC has been able to change its modus operandi this year. A dedicated CTC team transformed and facilitated our training, meetings, webinars and events online so most of our services could be delivered virtually. We were able to reach out to more people more frequently with a wider geographic scope in a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective way. Through our own CTC online activities and joint events with partners, as well as our social media, we reached out to 85,000 people this year. CTC plans to maintain its growth regarding online operations and services in the years to come.
The completion of our new office was another highlight this year and could not have been more timely, providing spacious and well-ventilated working stations for our team. The new exciting escape room ‘SOS Plastic Danger’ has just been completed and will be fully operational in the new year.
We are very grateful to our sponsors who have continued to support us for multiple years, enabling CTC to adapt to the new reality and for the unwavering support from our board, partners, supporters and friends. Thank you! Wishing you all the best for a brighter 2021 in good health and lots of joy.
