In the last two months, CTC celebrated global environmental events online, reaching a much wider audience compared to the past years. For the month of April to June, we organized 6 online activities and webinars and joined as speakers and resource persons for 20 others organized by our partners.  In total, we reached around 18,000 participants and viewers, which we hoped can be inspired to care for our oceans.
Although restrictions of large physical gatherings due to the Covid-19 pandemic remained in place in the Coral Triangle countries, environmental events such as International Day for Biodiversity (May 22), World Environment Day (June 5), World Oceans Day (June 8) and Coral Triangle Day (June 9), were still enthusiastically celebrated using online platforms and social media.
For CTC, some of the highlights of our online events included the webinar launch of the Nusa Penida MPA as a Mission Blue Hope Spot, the Coral Triangle Day Art for Oceans online drawing competition, and the SOS Plastic Danger online quiz to soft-launch our second escape room. We also joined events to mark Coral Triangle Day organized by our key partners such as the Bisik Bisik PRL organized by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and the Biodiversity and People at the Heart of the Coral Triangle in collaboration with  CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat and the Asia Dive Expo.
We also reached new audiences by speaking in webinars organized by Indonesian students such as the Sustainable Ocean Alliance’s webinar for Coral Triangle Day, Indonesian teachers through the Belajar Seasik Bermain event organized by Ludenara and PGRI, and marine science students through the fish identification class with Belajar Ikan Karang. We also reached avid scuba divers and spoke about sustainable diving practices through events organized with SSI Indonesia and university diving clubs such as Industri Wisata Selam dan Snorkeling Berkelanjutan and Bincang Bincang Selam, and the Underwater Tribe Online Show amongst others.
Moving forward, CTC continues to develop new ways to engage online with our stakeholders, partners, and the general public. Stay tuned for updates!
