To mark the launch of the Nusa Penida MPA as its newest Hope Spot, Mission Blue in collaboration with the Coral Triangle Center, will hold an online media briefing and a public webinar on May 22 during the International Day of Biological Diversity. The webinar will also feature speakers from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Bali Province MPA Management Unit, and Green School. It will shine the spotlight on the inspiring stories of marine conservation from Nusa Penida MPA and how these can inspire action not just in Indonesia but around the world, through the Hope Spot platform.
Hope Spots are ecologically unique areas of the ocean designated for protection under a global conservation campaign. Initiated by Dr. Sylvia Earle in 2009, Hope Spots are about recognizing, empowering and supporting individuals and communities around the world in their efforts to protect the ocean. Hope Spots allow us to plan for the future and look beyond current marine protected areas (MPAs). Hope Spots can be large, they can be small, but they all provide hope due to the actions that are being undertaken to protect the planet.
