22 Apr Earth Day Bingo: Everyday Actions to Protect the Planet

Since 1970, people all over the world have celebrated Earth Day every April 22 to celebrate our planet and what we can do to protect it. This year, as Earth Day celebrations marked its 50th year, they highlighted the issue of climate action to engage the global community to work together to fight against one of the world’s most critical environmental challenges—climate change.

To celebrate Earth Day this year, CTC engaged our online community to join our Earth Day Bingo game. Starting with the words “To help protect the earth from climate change, I have…” the player could mark which actions they had done, then inspire their friends by sharing it on their Instagram.

With more than 50 people participating, we learned about the different creative ways that people are fighting climate change. The most common actions are shown on this infographic.

Climate change is one of the biggest threats faced by our planet, on the land and sea. One of the impacts of climate change is warmer ocean temperatures that can cause coral bleaching. This happens when the coral gets stressed and pushes out the algae that normally live inside it. We are not only losing the beauty of the coral but also the benefits corals provide including food and shelter for other marine animals.

We should keep in mind that our activities on the land will also affect marine life, so wherever we live, we all have a role to play. We hope this Earth Day can be a good start for us to care more for our earth and make every day Earth Day. Once we protect our earth, we will also be protecting ourselves. Happy Earth Day!
