For the fourth straight year, Coral Triangle Center collaborated with Bali Hai Cruises and Bali Hai Diving to celebrate Earth Day in Nusa Lembongan by spreading the message of marine conservation to local school children. The event was attended by 100 local students and teachers from SD N 1 Lembongan, SD N 2 Lembongan, SD N 3 Lembongan, SMP N 4 Lembongan, SMA Satu Atap Lembongan, and SMA Wisata Darma. This year’s theme was “Laut Lestari, Bumi Berseri (Sustainable Ocean for Radiant Earth)”.

During the event, students had a chance to learn first-hand about coral rehabilitation and enjoyed underwater scenery through a semi-submarine. The kids had a chance to learn about the connectivity of land and marine ecosystems by playing the Aquatico Board Game.

Made Putra, senior high school student from Wisata Darma said “the event was really good, now I know how to plant a baby coral and get more knowledge about ecosystem”. We hope that we have planted the seeds for the students to become future generation marine conservationists who will take care of the coral reefs and marine life in Nusa Penida MPA! Happy Earth Day!
