25 Apr Building Capacity in MPA Management and Planning Across Indonesia

On April 22-25, 2019, CTC hosted four days of Technical Training in Marine Protected Area Management and Planning (Bimbingan Teknis Perencanaan Pengelolaan Kawasan Konservasi Perairan) at CTC’s Center for Marine Conservation and Nusa Penida Marine Protected Area (MPA). The training included 42 staff members from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries from various provinces in Indonesia. Following the training, the participants took their competency exam that will enable them to gain points for promotion within the ministry. Febriano, a participant from Department of Marine and Fisheries of Central Kalimantan said that “The training method was good so that the participants were not bored during the training session”.

         

The participants also visited Nusa Penida MPA on April 25, 2019 to learn first hand about MPA Management from the Nusa Penida MPA Management Unit. CTC’s Nusa Penida Project Leader, Wira Sanjaya also led discussions about conservation activities in Nusa Penida including the threats that are faced by Nusa Penida MPA in the rapid development of tourism activities in those islands. The participants also enjoyed playing marine conservation-themed board game – Aquatico. Through this interactive game, the players also learned about how to create a healthy ecosystem while having fun with this game.
