29 Mar Inspiring Women to Protect the Oceans

This month, CTC Executive Director Rili Djohani received an award from BaliWISE as one of the “Inspirational Women of Indonesia.” The award, which was given on March 29, 2019 during the organization’s annual women’s day celebration, was inspired by the courage and perseverance of Indonesian women who are committed to make positive change. It is also in line with Bali WISE’s mission to empower young, and marginalized women of Indonesia through skills education.

Along with two other inspiring women, Janice Girardi (Bali Animal Welfare Association) and Paola Cannuciarri (ecoBali), Rili was recognized as “Environment Women of the Year” and she was recognized for her passion and action to preserve coral reefs and engaging people to conserve our oceans.

One week before the awards, CTC also hosted a group of 25 young women scholars from BaliWISE for an interactive fun learning class at CTC’s Center for Marine Conservation. The women, who are learning about hospitality under the sponsorship of BaliWISE, learned about basic marine ecosystems and what they can do to help protect our coral reefs and oceans. As most of them will be working in the tourism industry, they also learned how to promote sustainable marine tourism to their guests in the future.
