15 Sep International Coastal Clean Up Day in Sanur
On 15 September, 2018, CTC joined a massive beach clean up to mark International Coastal Clean Day. The early morning clean up gathered 1,287 volunteers gathered at the Padang Galak Beach in Bali and managed to collect as much as 841.53 kilograms of garbage.
The event was organized Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in collaboration with the Ocean Conservancy and other partners such as the BaliProvince Department of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, local schools, businesses and non-government organizations.
The collected waste will then be recorded in the Ocean Conservancy waste index, which is considered the largest marine waste database in the world. Thousands of similar coastal cleanup activities were also held simultaneously across the world. At least 91 locations across Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke participated in the cleanup.
In addition to clearing waste from the coastal areas, turtle hatchlings were also released, as well as provided diving goggles to children and released fish and turtle seeds into the sea.
