27 Jun CTC Hosts Blue Green 360 Award Winners Study Tour on Sustainable Marine Tourism

This month, CTC hosted the winners of the Blue Green 360 Awards for an inspiring 3-day study tour in Bali aimed to gain insights on the different aspects of sustainable marine tourism – marine protected areas, sustainable seafood, working with local communities, sustainable packaging and zero waste programs and solutions.

The participants included winners from Year 1: Six Senses Laamu and Year 2: Ceningan Divers, Reef Seen Divers Resort, Kurabesi Liveaboard and Nico Dives Cool.

The tour included talks and presentations from the CTC team, the Nusa Penida Management Unit, the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership as well as partners from the private sector such as Chumbe Island Coral Park, Avani, Fairmont Sanur, Alila Ubud and Ibuku. The winners also visited Nusa Penida MPA and learned about how local culture and traditions can be harnessed to protect the environment.

In 2017, the Coral Triangle Center (CTC) in collaboration with Reef World Foundation and the ADEX – Asia Dive Expo, launched the BlueGreen360 Awards to celebrate businesses and individuals in the marine tourism industry that are leading the way in implementing sustainable solutions in their day-to-day operations and sharing their knowledge and resources with the wider community. The award also aims to highlight the value of healthy marine and coastal ecosystems to the industry.

The winners, comprises of business operators and individuals from various countries e.g. Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives and the Philippines, have been judged and selected from more than a dozen nominees for their commitments and efforts in sustainability.
