Meet The Regional Advisory Board
The Coral Triangle Center regional advisory board members provide guidance and support to the capacity development programs of the Center. The members help ensure that the training and learning programs are targeted and customized to the needs of the CT6 countries and help maximize sharing and learning in the Coral Triangle region. The CTC advisory board promotes the CTC goals and achievements to a broad audience of local, provincial, and national stakeholders and international practitioners, help facilitate partnerships, and engage in events organized by the Coral Triangle Center.
Indonesia
Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, MSc

Prof. Dr. Ir. Jompa is member of the CTI NCC Indonesia.
He is one of Indonesia's prominent coral reef scientists and in 2007 established the Indonesian Coral Reef Society of which he is currently the Secretary. In addition to conducting research on coral reef ecology and management, especially in Eastern Indonesia, he has also been involved in helping the Indonesian Government as the Executive Secretary of one of the biggest coral reef management projects, the Coral Reef Rehabilitation and Management Program (COREMAP II).
Dr. Tonny Wagey

In 2003, Dr Wagey was appointed as Scientific Advisor to the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia on Fisheries and Oceanographic issues. He has involved in studies of IUU fishing and Oceanographic surveys with scientists the Agency for Marine and Fisheries Research (AMFR). One of his roles is to set up scientific collaborations between AMFR and other international institutions. In July 2004, Dr Wagey was appointed as the Project Manager of the Indonesia Secretariat Office of the Arafura and Timor Seas Expert Forum (ATSEF), and since 2006 he has been the Regional Coordinator ATSEF.
Malaysia
Prof. Dr. Nor Aieni Binti Haji Mokhtar
Undersecretary / Director of National Oceanographic Directorate, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (NOD/MOSTI)
Prof. Dr. Nor Aieni is the national focal person for the CTI and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO.
Her work focusses on planning, designing, coordinating, and bringing together domestic and international resources and expertise to ensure application of knowledge in oceanography and marine sciences.
Dr. Ridzwan Abdul Rahman
Marine and Coastal Resource Management Consultant.
Dr. Ridzwan A. Rahman, PhD has academic qualifications in agriculture, forestry and marine science. He served at Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (UPM) between 1981 and 1995 as lecturer and senior lecturer. From May 1995 to Sept 2011 he first served as Associate Professor at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and later as Professor in Marine Biology at the Borneo Marine Research Institute, where he was the founding Director. He was involved in several marine research and conservation programs as leader, coordinator, or advisor either at institutional, local, national or regional levels. Currently, he is being engaged as Leader of two consultancy projects: (i) reviewing and revising the management plan for the Turtle Islands Park, and (ii) strategic environmental assessment on food security in Sabah, Malaysia.
Papua New Guinea
Ms. Kay Kumaras Kalim

Ms. Kalim is the national Focal Point on CTI in PNG who has been instrumental in ensuring that the CTI regional mechanisms were in place in terms of facilitating the inaugural Leaders Declaration and others. She leads a team in PNG that coordinates the planning, and implementing the PNG Marine Program that extends to include the areas not covered in the CTI region but are part of PNG.
Associate Professor Augustine J. Mungkaje , Ph.D
Director, Motupore Island Research Centre (MIRC)
School of Natural and Physical Sciences, University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG)
Dr. Mungkaje is a marine and fisheries ecologist with many years of teaching and research experience in these fields at UPNG. Now as Director of MIRC, he directs UPNG’s Centre of Research, Teaching and Outreach in Marine Sciences. He is a member to many boards and committees and provides technical advice on topics ranging from fisheries, marine ecology, marine conservation and environmental (ecological) impact assessment. On a regional scene, besides his appointment to CTI Board, Dr. Mungkaje is also a member to PNG ATSEA-SEG, a group that will advise and contribute to biodiversity and ecosystem research in the Timor and Arafura Sea.
Philippines
Prof. Dr. Edgardo Gomez
University of the Philippines; Marine Science Institute
Dr. Gomez is an emeritus professor at the University of the Philippines who has just completed serving as the Coordinator of the Southeast Asia Center of Excellence under the GEF/WB Coral Reef Targeted Research Program, where he also served as the Co-Chair of the Restoration and Remediation Working Group. He is currently involved as the Marine Science Specialist in the ADB RETA 7307 Project on Knowledge Management where he is assisting the CT6 countries to prepare their State of the Coral Triangle country reports.

Solomon Islands
Ms. Agnetha Vave-Karamui
Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management & Meteorology
Agnetha Vave-Karamui serves as a Chief Conservation Officer within Solomon Islands’ Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management & Meteorology and most of her work revolves around the Coral Triangle Initiative themes since early 2008. She is currently the CTI National Coordinator, a focal contact for all CTI-related programs or activities for the regional, national and even provincial and community levels. She is making strides towards promoting conservation and environmental management within the government bureaucracy and maintaining networks amongst NGOs and other stakeholder communities.
Dr. Reuben John Sulu
University of South Pacific – Solomon Islands Campus
Dr. Sulu teaches marine science at the University of the South Pacific – Solomon Islands Campus. He is involved in research on coral reefs in Solomon Islands and has contributed to past reports on the status of coral reefs of Solomon Islands and the South West Pacific. He is currently a member of the National Coordinating Committee of the Coral Triangle Initiative in Solomon Islands.

Mr. Borges Fontes is the national focal person for the CTI. Furthermore he has also been actively involved in meetings of the Arafura Timor Sea Experts Forum (ATSEF) and the Partnership for Environmental Management of the Seas of Southeast Asia (PEMSEA).
