The Coral Triangle Center celebrated the organization’s official launch at the new office in Sanur on July 30, 2011.

The launch was attended by 83 partners and friends, including representatives of central and local government, universities, international and local NGOs, dive and tourism operations, community groups and media. Ms. Rili Djohani, CTC Executive Director, opened the evening with a speech in which she stressed the following:

Welcome to the opening of the new office of the Coral Triangle Center. It is my pleasure to be standing here with you after the idea was borne more than 10 years ago to set up a foundation that is focused on marine conservation. A professional and personal dream has come true with the establishment of the Coral Triangle Center.  Many of you who are here and who are not able to be here with us today helped us to get to where we are now.

We are excited about the opportunities. Our mission is embedded in the belief that commitment of people, transfer of knowledge and outreach is key to make a fundamental shift towards conservation and sustainable fisheries. CTC would like to make a difference in customizing information, communications and training  in the cultural context of the people whether in a country-wide context, at the community level, private sector or individual level. We will tailor the content and the way information is communicated among communities, entrepreneurs, managers, scientists, policy makers.”

After introducing the CTC Board and Staff members, she continued by introducing the invited speakers:

Mr. George Tahija, Chair CTC, who underlined CTC’s mission to inspire the commitments and sharing of knowledge and skills to stakeholders in marine resources management;
Mr. Suseno Sukoyono, Vice Chair CTI Regional Secretariat from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, who praised CTC’s involvement in supporting the Indonesian government and the Coral Triangle Initiative achieving their targets;
Mr. Suar Bawa, Founder Community Conservation Center Nusa Lembongan thanked CTC for its relentless support to the establishment of Nusa Penida MPA, which was a perfect supplement to the local community’s recognition of the importance of their ecosystems.
